B.F. Skinner and Applied Behavior Analysis

B.F. Skinner: found out that animals and humans will do just about anything if the reinforcement is good enough.

B.F. Skinner influenced the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with his rat box experiment.

All of a sudden, in the last few years, we seem to be hearing the term ABA whenever someone talks about children with autism spectrum disorder and how it is the best evidence-based intervention for these children. However, ABA applies to teaching as well!

ABA is an approach to changing socially useful behaviors that employ scientifically established principles of learning to bring about these changes. ABA is the result of years of scientific research conducted in laboratories, not just’s someone’s hunch or unproven theory.
